Fun and/or Useful Kid Writer Websites

Robin Friedman has done a great service by interviewing children's book editors and publishing those interviews on her site: http://www.robinfriedman.com/.

Turn on your speakers and enjoy roaming around JK Rowling's official site: http://www.jkrowling.com/. It's fun to explore all the goofy things she has on her "desk."

Jane Yolen is, of course, a prolific children's writer. She's started keeping an online journal about her writing process: http://www.janeyolen.com/journal.html.

Choosing Books for Kids--an SCBWI event, Sept.11

Librarians and booksellers spend thousands of dollars each year to acquire children's books for their "customers." How do they decide what books to buy? What are their selection criteria?

Come to the Ames Public Library Saturday, Sept. 11 at 10 a.m. to find out. Two librarians (one public and one school) and an independent bookseller will discuss their buying criteria.

This free event, sponsored by the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI), is open to the public. SCBWI members are especially invited.

The Ames Public Library is located at 515 Douglas Avenue in Ames, Iowa.
